The Vodafone Fiji U20 rugby team has qualified for the World Rugby Championship after a lapse of 4 years.  The team qualified after thrashing arch rivals Samoa 58-8 to win the Tier 2 World Rugby U20 Trophy.

Congratulating the team, major sponsor Vodafone’s Regional CEO Mr. Pradeep Lal said, “It’s a deserving win.  The team has won its rightful place in the top tier competition after remaining unbeaten in the World U20 Rugby Trophy playoffs.  Congratulations to the players, officials and coaches.  You all have done Fiji proud.”

“However, the tough task has only just begun.  To play in the elite U20 World Rugby Championships requires a lot of hard work, sacrifice and dedication to match the tier 1 nations.  We wish the team the very best as it prepares to play against the best rugby nations in the World Rugby U20 Championships.”

Recently, Vodafone Fiji extended its support to develop rugby as the grassroots level is where the passion for the sport is the greatest.  The primary schools Vodafone Kaji Rugby was great success this year.  There are abundance of talents who can go big time in rugby with the right support and structure.  Vodafone strongly feels that this is where we can begin to mold our future stars through our support.

The investments are bearing fruits as our age group teams are beginning to deliver the kind of results we had hoped for.  We are hopeful that we can build the depth and belief in teams to deliver consistent performance at the highest level every time.  Then we can truly set our sights to conquering the World.  The future is indeed exciting with this kind of performance, said Mr. Lal.

We wish the team, the very best for the 2019 World Rugby U20 Championships.
