M-PAiSA Now a Salary Option for Civil Servants

A partnership between Ministry of Finance and Vodafone Fiji has paved the way for civil servants to now receive part of their pay on their mobile phones as salary deductions. In making the announcement, the Permanent Secretary for Finance, Mr. Filimone Waqabaca said, “The government is receptive to new, more convenient and secure modes of payment particularly through widely accessible mobile technology. The decision by Ministry of Finance to open up the M-PAiSA as a mode of salary payment is as a result of constant request from many of our employees to have this option. Salary payment through M-PAiSA also complements governments E-Gov initiatives which provide greater transparency and accountability.

Vodafone Foundation Feels the Pain of Flood Victims; Announces Flood Assistance

The Vodafone Fiji Foundation under its Red Alert assistance program has moved swiftly to offer assistance to those being affected by the current flooding. The Foundation has disbursed $48,000 towards flood relief in the West with part of the funds earmarked to provide immediate food and water supplies to those affected especially children. Other funds will be used to rehabilitate farmers through seed and Seedling Outreach programmes. Some funds will also go towards providing food parcels for affected students, and providing healthy foods in canteens so that children are spared post disaster health issues.

Vodafone Fiji has today credited $1.25m dollars worth of free talktime to its customers’ mobiles based in the west from Nadi to Rakiraki affected by flood to assist in emergency communications.

Motor vehicle owners who have third party insurance cover with Sun Insurance can now pay for its renewal using their mobile phones. They will also be able to make insurance premium payments for insurance policies with Sun Insurance. Vodafone and Sun Insurance have signed a memorandum of understanding that now opens up Vodafone’s M-PAiSA service to pay motor vehicle third party insurance and other insurance payment with the Company using M-PAiSA.
