Vodafone Fiji has had a passion for Rugby and sponsored Fiji Rugby for 10 years.
This successful partnership commenced in 1994 with an annual sponsorship of $64,000.
Given that almost every household in Fiji follows Rugby, this was a way in which Vodafone could give back to the nation - to the 'vanua'.
Once a year, the whole of Fiji is united as one nation with one common goal - watching the Vodafone National 7's Team win in Hong Kong and Vodafone was privileged to be able to contribute towards that uniting occasion.
Over the period of the sponsorship the value of the Vodafone sponsorship increased annually.
In 1997, the Vodafone National 7's team won the Rugby World Cup 7's which brought triumph to Fiji in celebrations and united spirit.
In 2002, the FRU sponsorship was renewed for a record $1M over a period of 3 years. This was the biggest ever sponsorship signed in Fiji at that time.
In 2004, Fiji Rugby was ranked in the Top 10 Rugby nations in the world.
In December 2004, the 10 year sponsorship arrangement ceased with both Vodafone and FRU deciding to pursue other opportunities.
