Vodafone is urging users of Pre-paid Flashnet, its Mobile Broadband Internet service, to register their Data SIM cards when registering their mobile phone SIM cards. This follows questions from Flashnet users about whether SIM cards used in the modems of their devices were included under the Phone Decree.

Vodafone Fiji clarified its customer registration process in light of recent outbursts in the media by some individuals and consumer organisations. We launched our M-PAiSA service more than a month ago and so had designed the registration forms, which included information required by the Reserve Bank under its Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements well in advance of the Phone Decree, Vodafone's Chief Operating Officer, Pradeep Lal, said.

Seraphina Giblin-Mock of Raiwaqa knows all to well the importance of donating blood; her aunty owes her life to the anonymous donors who responded to an SMS request from Vodafone for O+ blood early this year. Students from six high schools are preparing to take the stage in June to compete for $1800 in cash prizes in the Vodastar Talent Quest, hosted by Ba-based Radio Paschim. Vodafone Begins M-PAiSA Pilot

M-PAiSA will allow registered users to temporarily store and transfer money cheaply and safely. Vodafone clients will be able to deposit and withdraw cash with approved Vodafone agents in Fiji, send money directly onto others mobile phones, buy recharge or airtime and also receive money from overseas directly onto their Vodafone mobiles. The M-PAiSA service offers many services similar to a bank. The main difference is that M-PAiSA is not using customers' money to make loans or invest. It only facilitates money movement. The pilot involves Vodafone staff and their immediate families and a select group of individuals who will get a chance to trial the system for the next few weeks when the service is expected to be launched nationally.

This is the third telecommunication wholesale price determination since 2005. Even though the price control order was to have been lifted as part of the Radisson Accord for the deregulation of the telecommunications industry, the Commission felt it necessary to regulate the whole sale interconnect rates.
