The semi final playoff in the Rugby League World Cup (RLWC) between Vodafone Bati and Ireland last night was most absorbing and enthralling rugby league match by our Bati’s. It was a courageous and very discpilined performance by our gallant heros - one that the people of Fiji should be proud of.
The win in the semi-final play-offs is a defining moment for the Rugby League in Fiji.
“It is time to stand up and take notice of yet another sport,” said Ms. Avanthi Senaratne, The Chief Marketing Officer of Vodafone Fiji. Rugby League has carved it’s own space in the local sporting arena with its breathtaking performance at the RLWC. It can now compete for talents on equal footing with rugby union. Never before has any National Rugby League chartered into waters that this team has able to achieve. We now have an opportunity to reach the finals by toppling world champions Australia on their home turf. What more can you ask for a team that was picking up the pieces two years ago.
