Fiji FA Enters Strategic Alliance with Vodafone24th June, 2008
Fiji FA and Vodafone today signed a strategic partnership alliance that will provide football fans an interactive medium to participate in the sport. Under the partnership, Vodafone Fiji becomes the official mobile telecommunications Network of Fiji FA. What this means is that Fiji FA will now be able to leverage its many football properties using Vodafone’s interactive SMS TXT Platform to reach the fan base in a more interactive manner.
After the signing, the President of Fiji FA Dr Sahu Khan said, “this is a historic moment for Fiji FA. The signing of the partnership agreement with one of worlds leading and Fijis premier mobile companies opens a world of opportunities for Fiji FA. It provides fans the opportunity to be more closely involved with the game even if they are not able to make to the grounds. Under the partnership agreement, Fiji FA and Vodafone will run joint promotions where fans will be able to txt and win great prizes for themselves and at the same time contribute towards the development of sport.
Football commonly known as soccer is a global sport. It is played and viewed by more fans then any other sports. This is no different in Fiji. Football fans here are quite passionate about supporting their districts. This is most evident during tournaments when fans from around the country congregate for four-days of football feast. The txt platform provides us with the opportunity to transform this passion into much needed source of resources for Fiji FA. Fiji FA is committed to the development of the sport in Fiji. We hope this additional source of resources will boost our financial resources so that we are able to contribute more into the grassroots level for the development of football.
Football development in Fiji is being hampered by lack of financial resources. Using Vodafone’s Txt platform, we would able to offer our fans opportunities to enjoy the games in more then one way. There will be opportunities for fans to download wallpapers of their favourite player’s/ teams, download games that they can play on mobiles like the computer games. This will translate into more passion and interest in the sport.
Vodafone is known for picking up minor sports through its sponsorship and taking it to new heights. One of the examples is the Rugby League. Since Vodafone’s sponsorship of the sport two years ago, it continues to thrive and has a profile that is on par with any other major sport.
Currently, Vodafone is sponsoring two of the champion football districts of Vodafone Ba and Vodafone Labasa in the Fiji FA competition. The two districts are well placed on top after the opening rounds of the super six competitions. We hope the “midas touch” of Vodafone continues with Fiji FA.
For a major sport that is followed by more then half the population, it is most unfortunate that we do not receive much support from outside. Football provides an alternative positive career opportunity to many youths that keeps them away from the ills of the society. In this regard we are quite excited and thankful to Vodafone for coming to Fiji FA’s assistance. The shared revenue arrangement for promotions using Vodafone’s txt platform provides and alternative revenue stream for Fiji FA. At a time when town councils are seeking an increased share of the revenue from the gate takings, this partnership alliance is most timely. We are confident that Vodafone’s strong customer base combined with Vodafone’s marketing prowess can be leveraged many innovative and exciting ways to provide a steady income stream for Fiji FA in a win-win three way partnership between the footbal fans, Fiji FA and Vodafone.
We are also very thankful to Vodafone to come to our rescue at a very short notice by sponsoring the Vodafone Oceania Futsol five-aside footbal that was held at the Vodafone Arena two weeks ago. To host an international event is a huge drain on the financial resources of Fiji FA and we would like to acknowledge Vodafone’s timely contribution to making the event a success.
