Vodafone Extends Coverage in Rural North

Vodafone Fiji’s rural network rollout plan continues to gain momentum. Only two weeks after commissioning 3 new base stations in the Ra, the company has commissioned yet another base station, this time in rural Vanualevu. The base station commissioned at Korovatu in Labasa is a ten-kilometre drive to the north from Labasa town.
The base station provides Vodafone network coverage to around 6000 people in the area for the first time.
The coverage extends from Malau Jetty to the Kia Island and all the way to Coqeloa and surrounding areas. Along the route lie some very prominent sites and location of Vanualevu.
Korovatu is a renowned picnic spot in Labasa. The owner of the picnic spot and long time resident in the area, Mr. Ram Sewak who also owns a small guest house says, “the mobile communication will assist him better manage his business by ensuring instant contact with suppliers and workers. Picnic livers who flock the beach will also feel safe with their mobiles handy”
The priest who looks after the temple said. “looks like years of praying has come in the form of improved communications services for the people in the area. We have devotees who come from every part of Fiji and abroad. Many of them want to contact their families and friends straight after their prayer but were unable to do so. Now with Vodafone’s coverage in the area, they can do this with ease and the reception is also very clear”.
The Mobil Oil Manager in Malau, Labasa Mr Dean had this to say, “we had very little mobile reception here before and we used a mobile booster for better signal strength. Now without the booster, the reception is very clear both inside the office and outside. This is really good for our business”Other areas that now have Vodafone network coverage include; Vunika, Naleba, Ranibulu, Mataniwau and Coqeloa.
