Vodafone Salutes Gallant Bati’s

The gold-winning Vodafone Rugby League Bati side to the South Pacific Games was yesterday hosted to a surprise tea party by the Management and Staff of Vodafone Fiji.
The players were accorded a guard of honour by the staff who the lined the Vodafone driveway and cheered the team as they arrived in a Vodafone Bati branded bus. The team was then treated to a sumptuous morning tea and later presented with Vodafone Mobile Phones as gifts by Mr. Aslam Khan, the Managing Director of Vodafone Fiji Limited.
In congratulating the team for their gallant performance, Mr Khan said, “the Vodafone Bati side to the SPG is the first National Rugby League side ever to have won a gold medal at an South Pacific Games. This is a proud moment for Fiji Rugby League and Vodafone is thrilled to be associated with this landmark achievement through our sponsorship of the Fiji Rugby League. The win is even sweeter to have beaten the Samoan side in the final in their home turf with bulk of their players coming from NRL and NZRL. “The win puts the Bati’s in the right frame of mind going into the world cup in 2008.”
In acknowledging the support of Vodafone to the Fiji Rugby League, the Manager Mr. Peni Musunamasi said, through Vodafone’s sponsorship, Rugby League in Fiji has grown in leaps and bounds in the last 2 years. To cap it off with a gold winning performance in the SPG is a fantastic feeling and it only augurs well for the future of the sport in country.
The captain of the side, Mr Iowane Divavesi, was overwhelmed by the reception and had this to say “it is great to be recognized and rewarded for our win. We are all amateur players and such incentives motivate us to do even better next time around. On behalf of the players we thank Vodafone for their sponsorship and giving the unemployed youth a chance to do Fiji proud.”
Vodafone also honoured two of its own staff – Adrian Bossley who was part gold winning Basket Ball team and Neelu Nand coach of the Taekwondo team that won a bronze medal at the Games
