Vodafone secures venues naming rights 18 April, 2007
Vodafone Arena – that’s the new name of the Fiji Sports Council’s multi-purpose facility at the National Sports Complex at Laucala Bay.
The announcement was made this morning by Vodafone Fiji Chairman Mr Lionel Yee and the Fiji Sports Council’s Board Chairman Mr Tom Rickett.
Vodafone has also secured naming right to the Vodafone Prince Charles Park and
the Vodafone Ratu Cakobau Park for the next three years.
Vodafone Chairman Lionel Yee said the sponsorships were appropriate because they met Vodafone Fiji’s objective of being involved with the community and most major national community events were now held at the Vodafone Arena.
Mr Yee said the sponsorships for the Vodafone Prince Charles Park and the Vodafone Ratu Cakobau Park will help the local councils’ maintain and upgrade the parks which will host weekly activities and events.
“In doing so we're assisting the two councils to create a safe and more comfortable environment for members of the public to enjoy their activities and sports with proper infrastructure in place,” he said.
Yee said Vodafone has a global vision “to care for the world around us”.
“Driven by this vision, Vodafone has over the past year sponsored Fiji’s premier community carnival, the Hibiscus Festival, as well as several festivals throughout Fiji,” he said.
“Vodafone Fiji is convinced that the secret to successful commercial activity is largely dependent on its corporate responsibility toward the development of the community in which we operate.”
“Vodafone Fiji also helps the community each year through the Vodafone ATH Fiji Foundation – since its inception in March 2004, the foundation has directly invested over $1.3 million into the community by funding the work of non-government and community based organizations. This financial year, another $1 million will be given in grants to deserving NGOs.”
Fiji Sports Council marketing manager Rajesh Singh said the Sports Council was extremely pleased to have Vodafone Fiji coming on board.
He said the sponsorship had more than doubled and this would enable the Sports Council to maintain low charges to customers and thus maximise the use of the facilities.
Nadi Town Clerk Robin Ali said the Vodafone sponsorship would go towards the improvement of the ground.
“One of our key objectives this year is to uplift the standard of the ground to international requirements so we can attract more games and activities at the ground,” Ali said.
“We’re surrounded by international hotels and the international airport so we can showcase to our visitors our upgraded sporting facilities as well as ensure a safe and friendly environment for all.”
Nausori Mayor Vikash Singh welcomed the sponsorship as timely and would help the council upgrade its facilities at the Vodafone Ratu Cakobau Park.
