Vodafone brings better mobile coverage to 7000 in Nadi
03 August, 2006
More than 7000 people will benefit from Vodafone Fiji's commissioning of a new base station, its 107th, at Nasau, Nadi this week.
The new base station is being launched a week after the launch of a new $600,000 base station at Vanuabalavu, Lau.
Vodafone Fiji now has a total of 107 base stations, providing mobile coverage for over 65% of the population.
Another 15 new base stations, based on increasing coverage and capacity in the greater Suva area as well as better rural coverage and taking access to tourism resorts on outlying islands, are to be put in place this year.
"We are establishing base stations as fast as we can find sites to cater for our increasing customer base and demand," says Vodafone Fiji chief executive Aslam Khan.
The Nasau site, located in the interior of Nadi, enables greater capacity and GPRS or 2.5G services for the 7000 customers in the area.
The site covers areas such as Solovi, Nausori Highlands, Nasau, Namulomulo Village, Mulomulo Masjid and Primary School, Yavuna Village, Meigunyah Settlement and Primary School, Nawaka, Tovatova, and part of Namoli.
The site also covers various government stations, schools, police posts, cane farming areas as well as an orchid farm and a water bottling company's operations.
It has also increased capacity and enabled the sharing of traffic load with neighbouring sites of Votualevu, Namaka, Nadi and Enamanu.
