Vodafone warns of hoax SMS

Vodafone Fiji has warned customers to be wary of a hoax chain Txt message that is being circulated.
The said Txt message urges mobile customers to call on a three digit number 777 and get 10 more people to do the same.
The message claims the recipients will get $30 of free airtime if they do so.
Vodafone Fiji chief executive Aslam Khan says customers should be wary of this type of Txt message.
"This kind of a hoax message has appeared before and seems to be the work of mischief makers," Khan said.
"We do not condone the abuse of our network for such malicious intent by some individuals.
But Khan said that if the message had been sent to hundreds of people, it was difficult to find out who started it.
He said it was a mobile version of a chain email or chain letter and many overseas networks had been hit.
"It is very hard to find the source and we can't do anything to stop it because it is chain texting," Khan said.
"We have over 220,000 subscribers and it could be anyone.
"It could also be anyone from overseas as people from as many as 100 countries can send and receive Txt messages from Fiji from last year."
