A PXT says a thousand words, and Vodafone users seem to agree

31st December, 2004

It is said a picture says a thousand words and Vodafone PXT users seem to agree.

Vodafone Fiji customers have sent over 3100 PXT messages in just two weeks since the launch of the service on December 16.

This has exceeded Vodafone Fiji's expectations and the number is set to grow as more customers buy PXT-enabled mobile phones and others who already have them, get their phones PXT enabled.

PXT or multimedia messaging is a new form of Txting. PXT is like TXT but with pictures, sound and colour and allows you to instantly capture and share special moments with friends or loved ones.

"With a Vodafone PXT mobile you can send colour pictures, short videos, audio recordings and longer TXT messages from your mobile phone to another Vodafone Fiji or Vodafone Australia mobile user," says Vodafone chief executive Aslam Khan.

PXT is also enabled so that it can be sent to any non-PXT phone or email address around the world.

This means that when you send a PXT to a non-PXT enabled phone, the phone owner will receive a TXT message containing a retrieval code, giving details on how to retrieve the PXT from the Vodafone PXT World website. He or she will have to enter their mobile number plus the code to view the PXT. They can also reply to the PXT user from the website.

Khan said PXT is ideal for those customers who want to share their New Year's celebration or holiday experience with their family, friends or relatives around the world.

"You can also use it to congratulate someone, to get a friend's opinion on a product or product colour while shopping or to make someone laugh by sending a funny picture such as a friend falling into the swimming pool."

"Plus of course, PXT is made for special occasions such as anniversaries, birthdays, Christmas, New Year or Diwali."
But before you can use this service, you will need to configure your mobile handset so that you can send a PXT. Once you have configured your handset, you will need to send a PXT before you can receive a PXT.

You can get your phone configured at any Vodafone Fiji retail outlet or call Vodafone Fiji customer care on 123 or visit www.vodafone.com.fj at any time for help.

PXT mobile handset prices range from $349- $1900 and are available from at Vodafone Retail outlets in Suva, Nadi, Lautoka and Labasa and Vodafone dealers - MH Homemaker,
Courts-Homecentres and Mr Mobile.

For more adventurous customers, there is also Video PXT and audio recordings that can be sent from your PXT video-compatible phone to another PXT video-compatible phone or email address anywhere around the world.

The receiver can either view the video on their phone or view their Video PXT on the PXT World website by entering their mobile phone number and special code.

If the video is sent to an email address, the receiver will need to have a media player installed on their PC to play it.

For those inclined to write long text letters, PXT is heaven sent as there is no 160-character limit.

At present, camera phones that can send and receive PXT include: Alcatel 735, 756, Nokia 3650, 3660, 7650A, Samsung SGH-E700, SGH-E800, Sony Ericsson T230, T610, T630, Z600, K500i, K700i, P800, P900, P910i, Sharp GX10, GX10i, GX15, GX30, Sagem MYV75, and Imate.

Some non-camera phones also support PXT: You can retrieve a PXT photo on an Alcatel 535, Nokia NGAGE, as well as a Sony Ericsson T230 & T68.

It costs 75 cents vip to send a PXT and 99 cents vip to send a Video PXT to any mobile phone or email address around the world. It does not cost anything to receive a PXT.
