LTA Fine Payments via M-PAiSA

25 May, 2012

Everyday some motorist or driver is issued a ticket for some traffic related offence.  This could be for over speeding, wrongful parking, not wearing the seat belt or even talking on the mobile phone whilst driving.  Once a ticket is issued, the driver or the offender is allowed 21 days to pay the fine after which the matter is handed to court for legal action.

For many paying the fine is not as much an issue as standing in the queue for long period which is more painstaking. Now, with the M-PAiSA, you can pay all your LTA fines 24 hours a day without the need to visit an LTA office. Vodafone and LTA yesterday signed a memorandum of understanding that now opens up the ever growing M-PAiSA service as a medium to pay all your LTA fines.  M-PAiSA is mobile phone based payment service that allows registered users to be able to make a number of customer to business and business to customer as well as person to person payments from anywhere and at anytime.

In launching the new payment medium yesterday, LTA CEO Naisa Tuinaceva said, “it is another technological advancement by LTA for the convenience of our clients.  We have been incorporating new technologies in an effort to improve our service by providing greater convenience and accessibility to our services.  M-PAiSA offers a 24 hour channel to make fine payments to LTA without the need to visit LTA.  Most drivers have at some point committed a traffic offence.  Whilst the ideal scenario would be that every driver follows all aspects of the LTA act so there is no fines to be paid, this is not the reality on our roads.  We therefore need to make sure that those who breach traffic laws and subsequently fined are given the convenience to pay their dues in timely manner to avoid legal action.”

Mobile phone based payment services such as M-PAiSA is gaining popularity throughout the world.   Mobile phones are no longer just a medium to make calls or browse the net, it is now the key to your house or car, it’s your identity card, it’s your personal data bank and increasingly it is now becoming a replacement for your leather wallet with many payment options available through the mobile phone.

“Vodafone has been trusted mobile phone service provider to LTA for over 17 years. We are delighted to take this partnership to another level with the launch of the LTA fine payment option via M-PAiSA.  The service is available free of charge with no additional cost to the payer.

To use the service, registered M-PAiSA users need to have balance in their M-PAiSA account which can be done through an M-PAiSA Agent.  They can dial *181#, select option 7 for payment from the M-PAiSA menu and follow the steps to make their payments.  After the payment is made, customer receives electronic receipt as proof of payment.  At the same time, LTA gets an online notification with full details of the payment being made which they use to update the records.
