Vodafone Staff and Fiji Bati to Bolster Blood Drive

16 April, 2009

Suva staff of Vodafone and Fiji National Rugby League players will be amongst donors at today’s (Friday April 17th) blood drive hosted by the Fiji Institute of Technology’s Samabula Campus.  And they’re appealing to the public to join them.

Jone Wesele, Vodafone Fiji Bati hooker and second rower will be a first-time donor and will be joined by players from the Makoi Bulldogs Rugby League Club.  Asked why he was donating blood today, Wesele said, “I believe that the small things we do for people count as much as the big things.  You never know what can happen to you and when you might require blood so I’m giving mine knowing that it will help somebody in need.”

Vodafone Fiji Ltd last year signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Health to support for the National Blood Services by sending free messages by SMS to registered donors prior to blood drives.  This has resulted in higher turnouts at most drives.

Today’s drive will be held from midday to 5pm at the FIT in Samabula and is organized by the Satya Sai Service Organisation on behalf of the Fiji National Blood services with support from Vodafone and the Fiji Times.
